I cannot speak directly for the author, I only can speak as to how I would do it. First off I would make sure that the modeling program, whether it be 3ds max, SketchUp, Revit, or anything else, calls out the edges as hard edges. Since Lumion would try to smooth out any edges called out as smooth. Then it's only a matter of proper lighting technique in where you place the lights and how strong they are to highlight certain edges whereas some are more in shadow, this is the same technique in any program

Really love the look of this one. I have found that lumion can have a hard time rendering edges and sometimes they blend together due to lighting. Your edges look very crisp here, would you mind sharing how you achieved that? Thanks. Great work!

I forgot to mention the new setting that Lumion has called "omnishadow" it adds a gradient shadow to surfaces as to add more depth to your render and leaving it looking less flat. You can adjust the amount of omnishadow in your images
