Thanks for the replies, guys! The ceiling is about 12 feet high (3.5 meters), so it is a bit higher than a regular ceiling. Not sure if enough to give the impression the camera is higher than it should, though.
"Beautiful is not always realistic as much as realistic is not always beautiful." Thanks for the info. Agreed.
Dave: The camera is a 1.6m high (something a bit above 5 feet)... Maybe you're getting the CCTV feeling because of the perspective lines. Then again, maybe I should have put the camera even lower to avoid that. Thanks for your comments!
I think it the ceiling height which gives this feeling. How high is it?
Real nice Rick.. I think it would be a great excercise.

DelfoZ: Thanks, man! I hope my students like it too! ;) Inxa: Thanks! All the lights you saw on the white renderings are still there. It's just that after the materials are complete, some of them start to behave differently. The island side is overbright because there is in fact another window/door behind the camera, so there's a lot of light coming into the kitchen. I decided not to remove that light source so I would have a more realistic effect (beautiful is not always realistic as much as realistic is not always beautiful). i really like this image, but can't help thinkin the camera is slightly to high, when looking at the image it feels like i'm really tall and looking down on the kitchen (a bit like a CCTV) other than that it's really nice
I remember seeing the white block render in the vrayrender section as a reply to someone. Good explanation there. Did you remove the ceiling lights in the kitchen area. One question - why is the side of the prep island so over bright. Nice wood texture. Looks good.
Im Asking bcuz i am teaching Max/MentalRay ( in my ex-university), i like mentalray bcuz comes with MAX already, and not sure if the University wants to buy the Vray licence or the students. I love teaching , even i do 3d all day is soo refreshing go to the school and teach. Also that scene looks very intresting for an exercise. Have a good day.

Thanks, DelfoZ! Yes, as a matter of fact, I've been teaching Max+V-Ray for almost 5 years, now (not to mention the other 10 years teaching 3ds max alone, lol). To me, it makes more sense to teach both at once instead of going through Max and then V-Ray.
nice image Are u teaching 3dsmax with vray ?
