I spent some time over the christmas break learning 3ds max and VRay, as an training exercise I modelled my Kitchen. All the objects in the scene I created, other than the Apples and Banana's. I Learnt loads but there are still some things that are just beyond me, Lighting in particular, especially using IES lighting, to get effective results I have to set them to 500,000% intensity, which gives OK results, but don't look very believable. Any feedback, regarding composition, lighting, noticable problems or general improvements would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi i like everything about this scene!! It gives a very warm feeling!! I am actually working on a small kitchen scene my self now! :P I used to have the same problem with the lights! i had to get the intensity to a ridiculous level which logically it shouldn't be like that! It is a problem with the system unit setup! Before starting with a scene you must first customize your units like so. You go to Customize/Units setup.. you click on "Metric" and choose whatever you like meters, inches or centimeters, but then you should also change there the "System unit setup" which is just above, you click on it and you change it to whatever you have decided to use as a display metric system! I did that before starting a new scene and the lights where in normal intensity! If this is not the case i hope you find a solution to this problem!
I see outside lighting? Did you use "vray sun" and "vray sky portal"? May be to increase value of "vray sky".
Thanks Ivaylo, but I have no shortage of the IES lights, just can't get the balance right, which I think thats why it's so dark in spots. Could that be sorted using different GI settings?
Good! I think it has to be bit brighter. I have a library with hundreds ies lights, but i don't know how to share them with you. Please, If there is a way to do it, let me know.
