Crits are and should be a welcomed thing to the good artist, but like Jeff said, one should crit with tact. It's much better to say: "I like this and this about you image, but suggest changing this and this to improve it further", than saying: "your image is no good, sorry, this and this are horrible, no good".
As a beginner, this thread has really highlighted an issue I've been struggling with lately regarding visualisation. When I first started looking at these galleries (before I started learning vis) I had a strong sense of the images I liked & those I didn't. The more I learn & the more I concentrate on the technical, the more I seem to question why I respond to some images & not others. I'm starting to get concerned at how often I now look at something in the real world & think "that would look better with more reflection" or "that tree just doesn't look real". I often see images here that I really love (like these ones), then people give all sorts of direction, the images are 'technically improved' but they sometimes seem to lose their magic. I understand the optimum level of realism/artistic expression varies greatly depending on the target audience and all of us have different preferences. We also live in different countries with different light qualities, vegetation colours & architecture types. The point of my ramble is... I don't understand why some people crit with the attitude "I don't like it so it must be wrong". Or am I missing the point and is there always a right & wrong?
hi NIc, Did you not think my crit was constructive? I thought I offered a good explanation for why I did not like the images. Do you disagree? Do you think the images/project is well deserving of praise- not faults or weak areas? I think if you apply my crits and fix those points the project could be great. Look beyond your ego and see the point of these forums is to learn and improve on your work. Next time I will write the comments more gently. Sorry C
Lets play nice guys. This is a professional forum. I not going to take a side here, but I will say crits can and should be critical, even if the individual has only a few posts. The number of posts has nothing to do with ones ability, experience or skill level. Even the best images can be picked apart if one really wants to be critical. That having been said the relative anonymity and personal detachment of an online forum should not be an excuse to not use tact when making comments.
Thanks Jeff.

I have some clients that want the best quality and would laugh at those images Poor guy. C
You are most definitely a troll and I look forward to seeing your work on CGArchitect.
Wow, BVI, very personal response? Feeling a bit insecure there? If you post images you should be able to take criticism. I thought the whole reason for posting work was for constructive responses? or are you just looking for love? Objectively speaking, do you think those images are really that good? If they are that great will you get pro of the week, image of the week, best of evermotion , name your award. THere is seriously something wrong with the mediocrity. As for the client, what a poor excuse, I have some clients that want the best quality and would laugh at those images, however there are others that would think that is the best work ever. You cannot gauge your quality whether your client is happy or not. What do some of them know? So of them think this 3d thing is real magic-- old school guys. If you really only judge critism by the quality of work in my portfolio- pretty short sighted.... what would you say if Jeff said this images are poor? He does not have any good work. and he is always asked to judge people work. If it is so important, I will post some work next week. Poor guy. C
it indeed is an awesome render..good work..love the car :) Meher
Thanks Meher!
I wouldn't mind living there either, but I could settle with that car. Not a huge fan of the driveway, looks somewhat old like cobble stone roads like acjwalker pointed out. John ResPower Support Render Farm http://www.respower.com
Thanks John, I agree with the driveway issue :)
HI I don't think the images are that successful, I feel you have lost a great opportunity to show a play between the heaviness of the concrete and brick materials against the lightness of the glass. the glass i feel looks very dark and stodgy. Needs to have more lightness, reflection and depth. The Second image- Aerial one- does not work as you lose the depth of the elevational planes to the right, blends into one dark mass. I think a better sun angle would have worked to help with shadows? maybe a zdepth filter applied in photoshop. Not sure? Viewpoint selection does not create a great composition? Plants looked rushed and for a smart upmarket house where is the prestine lawn--daisy's? Last looks like some scaling problems props. all about selling thearchitecture of the house, not that successful. Bit harsh, but hopefully useful. C
You are welcome to your opinion, however, these were successful as my client was happy with the images and his client was also happy with the result. Ill pay your comments attention when you post some of your own work and have more than three measly posts to your name. Merry Christmas.

Thanks guys!
CAD is the best way, what would you prefer
Sketchup or Revit...not because its easier, we generally spend a day remodeling the geometry, BUT, the architect has resolved the architecture and understands what the model will look like in 3D. Generally they have also shown it to their client and hence there are less structural changes .
Nice images and car Nicolas!
CAD is the best way, what would you prefer, nice image. Maybe increase reflections in windows. The drive seems fine to me if it is cobble stones.
Really great job.......but the driveway texture can be a little bit refined.......rest is really nice!!!
