Tommila Architects’s and Kaleidoscope’s proposal for the Train Factory area in Helsinki involves the construction of brick-clad halls that are based on the principles of circular economy. The design presents innovative ideas for developing industrial areas in urban settings and was acknowledged by the jury for having the strongest public ground floor program among all the proposals. The building features a multi-use space that can host performances, concerts, gigs, cinema, and lectures. Our images show how the quarter could foster a sense of community and become a lively hub, no matter the season.

Location: Japan

Very popular with Japanese fishermen, located off the coast of Shiraishi-Jima, this bay is cradled by a windy sea current which, once it has vibrated, causes a deep feeling of calmness. The sound pavilion, also known as the pavilion of a thousand sails, was originally created to soothe people in great pain. However, if one remains motionless for only 1 hour, the vibration caused by the sails offers an inaudible sound frequency but establishes a "reset" of the hearing.

"Can't go home anymore"

The climate change that we seeing right now is mostly driven my human activites, a warming climate affecting the Arctic sea is affecting the polar bears habitat therefore endangering their lives, which only marks the reminder that the entire survival of the species is at stake.

Project

The MINIMODS are a composition of modules in stellframe and wood that are applied in various uses ranging from a compact refuge in natural landscapes, small showrooms for events or hotels.
For the project, I inspired the colors of the minimod in the famous Japanese rice cake (Onigiri) and the module was inserted in the center of a Japanese lake, surrounded by Sakura, Yoshino Cherry and Japanese Camellia vegetation.
